Gabriele D’Annunzio (1863–1938) met Livorno in his youth, when the literary critic Giuseppe Chiarini invited him for an interview.

He bought a villa in Castiglioncello, between Punta Righini and the Quercetano bay, to spend his “hedonistic idleness” and, after a night of love, he renamed it Godilonda.

He was often seen at the Ardenza Hippodrome, there is a photo from 1907 that portrays him together with his friend, Duchess Massari.

We then find him in 1908 together with Mascagni among the guests at a reception organized by Guido Chayes.
