It is said that Giovanni Boccaccio was inspired by the Romito locality for the tenth story of the second day of his Decameron, which tells of the beautiful Chinzica, kidnapped by Paganin da Mare near a certain tower in Montenero. This tower was the medieval ancestor of the Boccale Castle.
