Marco Milone, “Anime nude”

“Anime nude” is a collection of short lyrics. Some remember from afar the last Caproni of the “Count of Kevenhüller”, almost as if one had renounced to express himself to the outside world, to communicate with a humanity that mocks and violates hopes, and falled back on sandy melancholy, on memories, which are painful paths, “only for me”, because no one can understand the feelings of others, nor share them.

Having insisted on the concept of death, the dark lady (corpses, tombstone) together with the search for the Absolute, which is not only the Supreme Being that hurls its wrath on creation — and, at the same time, manifests itself to anyone who seeks it — but also supernatural in a broader sense.

Rhymes deliberately easy and clumsy; words that return as echoes in almost every poem: melancholy, corpse, eternal, lexical choices that are not complicated but obsolete for an author born in 1980 — even Foscolian echoes, the fatal stillness — which do not allow themselves to be influenced at all by an easy contemporaneity: such great beauty, never, factories, zephyr. The verse is unadorned, aspiring, like the author, to purity and authenticity.

We like to propose here, in particular, the painful “Bloody palms”

Bloody palms

dipped in pain

My shoulder blades

The splendor

of the man who was

disappeared

assaulted

by arcane forces

now free

A restless zephyr

crammed us into

narrow ravines

That stifled our tremors

And as it got dark,

such was the rarefied air

that our breaths vanished.
