The Andrea Sgarallino was a passenger ship launched by the Luigi Orlando shipyard in Livorno. Since 1930, it shuttled between Piombino and Portoferraio. It owes its name to the Garibaldian from Livorno Andrea Sgarallino, hero of the uprisings of 1948.
In 1943, during the Second World War, it was requisitioned by the Regia Marina, armed, equipped with camouflage livery, and used for military services.
