Ranieri Simone Francesco Maria de Calzabigi (1714–1795) was born in Livorno, where he probably studied, perfecting himself in Pisa.
With the name of Liburnus Drepanio he was a member of the Etruscan Academy of Cortona and of Arcadia. He served in a ministry in Naples, where he was involved in a trial for veneficio, that is, murder by means of poison. For this reason he left Naples to go to Paris, where he met Giacomo Casanova, with whom he became a friend and who helped him to hone his amatory arts.
